BOB NELSON Editors’ Choice, Best Specialty Show 2008
November 30, 2008
On 20 November 2008 seven members of the Branson Critic staff joined the audience of the Bob Nelson Comedy Show. We made sure we were there in our seats early to catch the pre-show antics of “Grandpa.” When Grandpa was done helping Bob with his pre-show managerial tasks he slipped behind the curtain. At this point Chad Ray of Branson Critic was introduced to the audience and a hand holding a microphone came out from behind the curtain. Chad went up on stage and took the microphone to explain Branson Critic was there. Bob Nelson then came out and joined Chad as he explained to the audience what Branson Critic was and how the award nominations and selections were accomplished. Chad then read some excerpts of fan and editor comments supporting Bob’s show for the Editors’ Choice Best Specialty Show Award:

BOB NELSON COMEDY SHOW
July 8, 2008
Remember the days when you could enjoy a good stand up comic and then be disappointed when his time was cut short? In the last several years I've tried to enjoy stand up comedians but too many think the use of four letter words make their act funnier. Nothing could be further from the truth. The vulgarity simply lowers the bar for what is considered talent and what is funny. How talented do you have to be to cuss? There are many comedians that simply glorify indecency. Kind of makes you wonder about the audience, too. Do they really enjoy that stuff? I don't. What I do enjoy is good-clean-laugh-out-loud comedy and that's what we have right here in Branson.
After being featured on late night TV, Las Vegas, movies, comedy clubs, and his own HBO specials, etc., nationally known Emmy award winner, Bob Nelson, brought his kind of comedy to Branson. He has settled in and currently performs Tuesday through Saturday at 6:00 PM in the Imaginary Theatre at the corner of Gretna & Roark.

Bob Nelson is so funny! He is a unique talent. I've seen all his HBO specials and his TV appearances. He is a throw back to the old comics with fun clean comedy like Red Skelton, Jonathan Winters and Jerry Lewis. For those of you who are too young to know who they are then you must see Bob to see what you've been missing. He does skits and bits and lots of improvisation. You never know what will come out of his head! Bob's got my vote forever and always. God Bless you Bob. He's at The Clay Cooper Theater the 2PM Show.

I love stand up comedy and one thing that Branson doesn't have a lot of is a full show of comedy. There are MANY great comedians on Branson that play at different shows and all are VERY funny.
When I heard that Bob Nelson was coming to Branson I was excited. I had seem him on HBO and Showtime years ago and always enjoyed his comedy skits that he performed. When he first arrived in town, his show was at the Majestic Steakhouse and I kept having problems with the place being LOCKED up during the day. The box office was upstairs but someone would forget to open the front doors. Finally after several tries to purchase tickets I finally got to see him.
He said that he was sick that day and he was pouring sweat. He put on a great show. The audience was small but everybody was having a good time. He apologized that he was not at his best but everybody thought he was great.
I went back close to the end of the season last year and he was “in top form.” He was so funny that our faces hurt when we left. The crowd was larger but still not what I thought it would be for such a talent.
He is currently performing at the Clay Cooper Theater. I have not got a chance to see him at his new place but plan to soon.
